Lesson Learned
by Janet Scott McDaniel
Within, without, above, below,
time does not stop, it does not slow;
heartless, cruel, we call it then.
Time - rarely do we call it friend
To thief of youth, of precious years
we bequeath a river of bitter tears;
moaning anguish of dreams lost,
shadows shimmering in winter’s frost.
Balm to heal wounds to the heart,
fading pain when loved ones depart;
only its passage then can mend,
we become a willow, learn how to bend.
Learn to become a keeper of fire,
of passion, of living life’s desire;
until reaching the veil at journey’s end
reluctantly, time becomes our friend.
Time does not stop, forever will it flow,
a lesson learned in soft candlelight glow.
