What Doesn’t Kill You
by Elaine Body
What doesn’t kill you
May still kill you
In the end
And what it means not to die
To wake up screaming like
Pissed off kettles
Has yet to be explained without
Quivering finger tips
Ready to tell every secret they hold
Because sometimes
It’s easier to finally let go
And you never know
What might happen when you
Stop preparing for everything
That may or may not happen
I know from personal experience
This is one of my bad habits
Sometimes you have to stop making plans
And just make sure your spine
Still knows how to bend
Because what doesn’t bend breaks
What doesn’t bend
Breaks
And I have no desire to find you
Scattered and broken
I believe you are better
Than your weakest points
Sometimes
Still being able to feel
Makes you strong
So if that day comes when nothing
Phases you
Make sure you can still appreciate
Small grains of sand
Beneath your feet
