Tell Me, Are You Afraid?
by Nancy Foley
Tell me, are you afraid?
Immobilized by your dragon-sized fears contained neatly in your chest.
Locked in a prison
Of well-formed patterns,
Of well-patterned forms,
Through no fault of their own. Or yours.
I See you….
Reaching to me through ribcage bars with Soulful eyes.
Reaching hard for Keys
Dangling just……. Out…… of reach…….
These Keys don’t slide into new hands easily
They want to know
How strong is the prison?
How strong are you?
A constant contest between
Old & New
Flesh & Steel Will
Love & Fear.
Innerworld dimensions & Outerworld expressions.
Look inside the pocket of your Heart
The Keys you really need are in there.
Folded carefully into tissue and passionate blood that boils and streaks, lava through your veins
Tell me, are you afraid?
I am. I have my own fears.
Am working Magic on them
Magical resistance so I don’t
Move too fastLove too hardGo too deeply
Too quickly that I almost Almost Disappear.
In smoke & tears, In your passionate embrace.
I am working Magic on them
By loving them….They don’t expect that
Although my Heart has been ripped to shreds I still have the Magic Glue
Piece it back together
A bit differently each time
Strands and bits forming a different pattern that is no less Loving no less
Giving, no less Unconditional in its response.
Tell me, are you afraid?
I am.
These fears that bang on my prison ribcage
That make me second-guess myself
Turn my stomach into quicksand
I always have a choice- to give in
Or not.
To give up
Or not.
Tell me, are you afraid?
I am.
But I will walk straight up to the dragon’s mouth, stare it straight in the eye,
And listen for the misunderstood purring emanating like threatening growls.
Tell me, are you afraid?
I am.
Reach for me, through your bars
And I’ll reach for you through mine.
When we touch, the fears and bars will melt
Transform into a chrysalis of beauty about to awaken.
And when it does, may it’s HeartLight shine into the corners of your ribcage & illuminate your Dragonfears to the point they become small wonders of curiosity.
But until then….
Just tell me… are you afraid?
