Folded
by Janet Scott McDaniel
In the warmth of the light,
fingers interlaced,
we journey-
two candles
burning a single flame;
one voice;
your name resting upon my lips
as I float with you.
A dark misty fog, drifting-
silence
slowly folds me into its arms.
Invisible steel bands,
cold,
suffocating,
pull me into the vacuum.
Desperately I squirm;
thrashing against that
which swallows me whole;
a modern day Jonah,
within a whale
of
silence.
Whispers in the night,
laughter,
tandem hearts beating...
all the sounds of you...
slowly fade away....
