Sticky Lablings
by Imani Sims
I’m holding onto tears,
all knapsack wrapped and leaking
onto road
through purple handkerchief tied to broken branch,
slung over weighted shoulders
just so
my sunken chest
can meet knees when I bend,
rib cage holding water drops like
a 24 finger vise grip:
brittle bone named
with each crack,
syllables slung
for the purpose of breaking:
1. stuck up princess
2. trifling bitch
3. the girl I stuck my dick in.
4. quiet nerd
5. stupid joke
6. the girl I hide behind because she knows, but we can keep
appearances.
7. home
8. muddy doormat
9. water and cum in the sink
10. church girl
11. blackened sheep
12. kisses between girls
13. poet
14. unpublished
15. “you know you’ll be broke as a full time artist”.
16. healer
17. shunned mother
18. giving power to generations
19, 20, and 21: lighthouse blazing
22. born
23. living
24. the girl, lover, goddess, artist, healing in hand, beacon.
I never ascribed to labels anyway.
