the porch of a stranger’s face
by Mykol Radziszewski
my heart to the brim with cat-tail pollen,
lifting, in the way that winter falls
through groaning sky
i remember we posed for pictures
with light up plastic penguins in Santa suits
you and i shaping ourselves into angels
in your neighbor’s yard
i reach across our wings to find your hand,
the cold crawl up my sleeve
your laughter,
muffled snowflakes;
our last snow together
now, each smile is strung careful as
Christmas lights across the
porch of a stranger’s face;
“it has been so long,”
“you know how things go”
“you look well”
we pass in the crunch of silence,
ours was always a dance of feet and ice
