Calling Card, Prepaid
for V
by Annmarie Lockhart
... and for now, for just right now,
I don’t care if he’s Satan himself
because he’s asking you to dance
and that’s a question you haven’t
heard for way too long.
He’s giving you what men or
angels should have given:
desire, need, naked greed; if
that must come from the devil
then so be it. Take from the devil
what he offers, and wear it like the
lingerie it is. Don’t worry about its cost.
Finger the lace. Drink the wine and
hold it in your mouth until it runs
and spills drops that don’t wash out
red, for this sin is prepaid and overpaid
and all that’s left now is to dance on it.
